The Zoning Board of Appeals is governed by the zoning law as contained in Wis. Stats. §62.23, as well as the Zoning Ordinances of the Village of Suamico. The purpose of this Board is to hold hearings and grant or deny variances to existing zoning ordinances. The Board:
- May make special exceptions to the terms of the zoning ordinance in harmony with its general purpose and intent;
- Shall hold an appeals hearing; and
- Can authorize variance as long as not contrary to public interest where a literal enforcement of provisions of the ordinance will result in difficulty or unnecessary hardship.
Board members are elected to three-year terms with five members who are residents, one of which may be a trustee. Two alternates are required by statute. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month as needed at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Services Center, 12781 Velp Avenue.
Members include Sue Last - Chair, Sharon Minta, Jack Robb, Bart Rynish, and Dan Schrader. The alternate member is Mark Heisel. An additional alternate position is vacant at this time.
