Village of Suamico Weight Restriction Policy
As allowed by Statue Statute Chapters 348 and 349, the Village of Suamico reserves the right to restrict use of its transportation system based on gross vehicle weigh as a means to protect and increase the longevity of its infrastructure. This restriction is intended primarily for enforcement on rural and residential highways which are not constructed or intended to support heavy vehicular traffic. As part of this policy, Suamico designates 18,000 lbs and over to be considered heavy traffic.
Enforcement of weight restrictions shall be on or about March 15th of any given year and shall remain until lifted by the Director of Public Works or Transportation which is typically on or about April 15th of any given year.
Exception to the weight restrictions are to be granted to individuals, companies, or corporations who supply vital services, delivery, or pickup of product which are essential to the health, safety, and well being of Suamico as a whole. Such individuals, companies, or corporations are to be considered as milk haulers, heating fuel suppliers, septage pumpers, and the contract trash and recycling hauler of the Village.
Each exception is allowed only to travel on the most direct route necessary to and from the destination point, and shall carry a permit issued by the Director or his/her designee at all times while traveling on a restricted way. Failure to produce said permit will constitute a violation and be subject to prosecution under the governing laws of the State of Wisconsin.
Local Business is not to be denied delivery of supplies or pickup of product more clearly defined in Chapter 4.10(4) of the Suamico Code of Ordinances. This portion of the policy is intended to allow continued operation of local business whose supply or manufacture of product is performed specifically at the address of exception. It is not intended to allow exception to local business which does not perform its specific service at the address of exception.
Applicable Roads are to be considered all roads within the Village of Suamico not designated as a Heavy Truck Route as defined and listed in Chapter 4 of the Suamico Village Code of Ordinances.
Permit fees for commercial carriers delivering or picking up product shall be consistent with Chapter 348.25 (8)
